Average Is The Enemy Of Success
John Mason put together some useful reflections in “An Enemy Called Average” and we’ve summarised them here:
- Don’t ever start your day in neutral.
- The more you look back the less you see ahead.
- Nothing dies quicker than a new idea in a closed mind.
- The best time of the day is . . .Now!
- You can’t get ahead when you’re trying to get even.
- Success means getting up one more time than you fall down.
- Let go of whatever makes you stop.
- The key to your future is hidden in your daily approach to life (ask me about this one. PR)
- Watch for big problems, they disguise big opportunities.
- What you set your heart on will determine how you spend your life.
- Find the problems you have an answer to.
Take Stock Of Your Friends…Now!
Over time the attitudes, thinking, spirits and approach to life of those nearest to you can come to deeply influence you and your life. If those people are positive souls who are constantly seeking to improve themselves and the world around them, then you’re getting a boost from them, so be grateful. If, however, they ceased to work on themselves some time ago you’re likely to feel a little like the racing yacht with 5 years of barnacles on her hull – rarin’ to go but oh-so-sluggish.
If you have people in your life who are no longer in step with you – whom you have left behind in terms of your thinking but who still influence you – it may be time to:
- Choose to continue the relationship in a more aware fashion; or
- Move on, accepting that these people are a part of your past, and find new friends who are more attuned to your world now.
Mason said, “My choice to change my closest friends was a turning point in my life.”
If you’re ready to move to a new level, let’s talk about how you might do that easily and without pain with a little coaching.
