Team Passports

Here’s a fun team-builder that one of my high-energy business acquaintances uses with her team and which may find a place in yours:

Issue each member with a “passport” the front of which contains their picture framed by your corporate marketing, and all of their business contact details, and the back of which contains the following single-line “personal data”:

  • Team Name (their title, but expressed in a fun way that truly describes their role or goal in the business.  Examples could be: Company Captain; Super Seller; Beancounter (accountant); Brand Evangelist (marketing); etc)
  • Real Name
  • Team Playing Position (eg, Captain, Accountant, Sales)
  • Qualifications (whatever is relevant
  • Experience (years of doing what)
  • Favourite Pastime
  • Favourite Food
  • Favourite Play Activity
  • Favourite Book
  • Favourite Quote
  • Best Advice for Someone Thinking About Dealing With Our Team
  • My New Friend (provision for team members to jot a person’s name on the back of their card – very handy for tracking source in a referral selling situation!)

Benefits

For larger teams in which everyone may not be in constant contact with everyone else, this provides an instant ice-breaker.  Team members meeting each other for the first time, or infrequently, exchange Passports, and are instantly on another level of rapport!

For teams of any size, Passports provide an instant rapport device with prospective and current Customers.  The Passport gives Customers enough personal information about their contact to form the beginnings of a relationship, and it does that a lot quicker than the traditionally dry method of exchanging basic job data then slowly getting acquainted.

Process

  • Print up a blank form (or CLICK on the link  >Team Passport < for a template) and ask each team member to complete their details.
  • Choose whether you produce the actual passport in house or have it produced by a fast print shop.
  • Produce the passports in multiples for each staff member.
  • Encourage everyone to exchange passports when meeting new team members
  • Drill everyone on the instant benefits of introducing themselves to new clients using their Team Passport
  • Team players could wear a copy of their passport in a clear plastic pocket as an instant identifier to prospective clients.
